The sacred doors will open for the Char Dham Yatra season
The Kedarnath Temple, dating back over 1,000 years, is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, the temple was built by the Pandava brothers after the Kurukshetra war to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
Legend says that Lord Shiva, disguised as a bull, dived into the ground to avoid the Pandavas. His hump appeared at Kedarnath, making it one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism. The temple’s unique architecture has withstood centuries of harsh Himalayan winters.
Built with massive stone slabs in the traditional North Indian style, the temple showcases remarkable architectural prowess. The structure is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions including heavy snowfall and avalanches.
The main temple houses a triangular rock formation, naturally formed and worshipped as the Sadashiva Linga. The temple’s conical structure and intricate stone carvings reflect the skill of ancient craftsmen who built this marvel in such challenging terrain.
